The Best Sports Bra for Busty Girls

busty girls

If you’ve ever read Judy Blume’s Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret, then you might recall this little gem hummed by adolescent girls throughout the 80’s and 90’s: “We must, we must, we must increase our bust.” Well either I said it wrong or God wasn’t listening, because I am not what anyone would refer to as well-endowed. I’ve got more of a Kate Hudson look going on – bra-size that is, not the six-pack or the California-girl golden mane (god that girl is genetically blessed). I seldom see a top or bra and think, “pretty, but there’s no way I can wear that without looking like a porn star.” But I was recently hanging out with a friend of mine, who has curves like Jessica Rabbit, and realized what a pain in the ass chest life can be for ladies with big breasts, especially when it comes to finding a sports bra that will tame them.

My girlfriend (who wears a 36DDD) has tried them all. Nike, Lululemon, Adidas. Every model, shape, and size. Here’s what she had to say:

On Lululemon: “None of them actually fit my boobs, and if they did I’m not sure they’d be sufficient to tame these tatas, no matter what they name their bra,” referring to their famous Ta Ta Tamer that offers their maximum level of support.

On Nike: “The way they’re built makes you feel like you’re wearing Madonna’s cone bra, circa the 1990 Blond Ambition tour. My boobs aren’t designed to be that shape.”

On Adidas: “Zero support. I don’t even know how they get away with calling this a sports bra. Only a man could wear this and feel secure.”

On pretty much every sports bra she’s ever tried: “Too small. Too tight. Makes me feel like I’m wrapped in a tensor bandage, WTF.”

Until she discovered the sports bra to end all sports bras, the greatest thing since sliced breadboobs, the most comfortable brassiere for athletics or athleisure, and in the most unexpected place, Victoria’s Secret.

According to my busty friend, Victoria’s Secret is the secret weapon for big-breasted women. “They fit well, they’re comfortable, they provide great coverage and good shape. I’ve worn them for sports, to the gym, and as a stand-in for a bikini top in the water for activities like scuba diving, snorkeling, surfing, or stand-up paddling. They are the only thing I’ve found that keep my boobs in check and they come in awesome colours like neon pink.”

So there you have it ladies, if your cups runneth over, so to speak, and you’re looking for something to keep them where they belong while you’re off living your life and breaking a sweat, then head to your nearest VS store and meet your match. In case you’re wondering, my friend’s two faves are the Incredible and the Ultimate, delivering exactly what their names suggest.
